"A Shot in the Dark" is a multi-level and multi-faceted guitar masterpiece that demonstrates the whole spectrum of Ian Melrose's musical abilities, which extend well beyond just guitar playing. The first song could be a motto for the entire CD: "Fingerpickers have more fun!" If anyone can prove that, then it's Ian Melrose with this percussive, driving, and dance-like guitar solo. The CD proceeds on the same quality level, the repertoire offers, among other things, humour and entertainment ("Pink Panther Theme" and "Slow Roll") and a breathtaking and creative duo version of the Gershwin classic "Summertime" (with Chris Jones).
